Frequency: Usually once a week, a Tumor Board Conference convenes for an in-depth discussion of all recent cancer cases.
People involved in the meetings: The meetings are open to the entire house staff, the medical staff and oncology nurses.
Procedure: At the meetings, a physician (usually a resident or fellow) familiar with the patient presents a case history. Pathologists and sometimes including radiologists present pertinent diagnostic information from their areas. Surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists provide a management plan for each patient based on the information obtained. Specific points or questions are usually clarified in the conference prior to rendering a specific management plan.
